Small rugs: flatten the edge and report continued movement

2 min read

A small rug's corner may fold when a chair moves or a toy slides underneath. A child can check one agreed lightweight rug and flatten a simple fold. An adult chooses its location and handles continued slipping or curling. Your child should not fasten the rug or move furniture.

Choose one familiar rug

An adult identifies the rug and where it belongs. Exclude heavy rugs, rugs under furniture and awkward door areas from this small job. The working area should be accessible without lifting anything else.

First look for familiar small objects beside the edge. An ordinary toy can go to its agreed home. Report an unfamiliar, sharp or broken object to an adult. Do not pull the rug hard to uncover something hidden.

Gently straighten a simple fold

Return the folded corner along the rug's original shape. Smooth the edge by hand without stretching the material. Look along the entire previously folded edge so another small crease does not remain alongside it.

If the rug has moved, ask an adult to assess its position. Straightening a fold and choosing a new location are different tasks. Do not test whether it slides by running or jumping on it.

Mina notices the agreed rug's corner folded over a small toy car. The car goes to its toy home and the corner is flattened. After ordinary use, the edge curls again. She tells an adult which edge is affected rather than hiding it beneath a basket.

When the edge will not stay flat

Avoid forcing, gluing or taping it down independently. Report that simple straightening does not hold. An adult decides further handling or whether to remove the rug from that location.

Finished means the area checked, a simple fold straightened and persistent trouble reported. “Check the small rug edge” in Kroni can end with this handover. Approval should not require solving a problem that needs an adult.
